ONE WALL LIBRARY

Malmö 1955. 500 apartments were divided in half by a single wall, doubling the number of housing units while harshly reducing the size and quality of living for existing inhabitants. This wall is the starting point for a public project on a nearby site. A 10 m high, 1m wide wall is drawn straight through the plot, dividing it into two parts.
The wall, a line with mass, defines a border between two conditions. As a mediator between these, the wall harbors all the technical infrastructure of the building as well as all subdivisions, creating an abstract and concrete unitary figure for the divided neighbourhood.
